The Base de Défense in Gap has signed a 20-year energy performance contract with Idex, as part of an extensive campaign by the country’s Ministry of Armed Forces to advance its energy transition.

The target in this contract is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 82% (i.e. 908 tonnes a year) while reducing final energy consumption by 36%. The detailed plan to achieve this involves:

  • Installing two biomass-fired boilers combined with a thermodynamic process
  • Sourcing wood locally to limit transport
  • Renovating the heating network
  • Managing energy in real time
  • Carrying out energy retrofits in 40 buildings
  • Installing 197 energy meters to track the reduction in consumption
  • Setting up 650 m² of photovoltaic panels
  • Building an electric vehicle charging station

About 55% of the base’s energy will come from renewable sources.

This new 20-year contract is strengthening our partnership with the French Ministry of Armed Forces.
