In French Guiana, Idex is building a plant that will convert biomass into electricity, Biomasse Énergie de Montsinéry (BEM). The construction site was visited by the mayor of Montsinéry‑Tonnegrande on 9 September.

During his visit, Patrick Lecante got to see the following:

  • the high-voltage line that will connect the power plant to the TDF source substation, spanning 7 km, in the process of being buried;
  • the simultaneous installation of a fibre network for transmission in collaboration with Orange, which could also benefit future housing developments in Montsinéry;
  • the construction of a road in the Quesnel West area, where the biomass plant will be located; and
  • earthworks for the future industrial installations.

Denis Angibaud, the project development manager, aims to have the industrial commissioning of the 6 MW power plant wrapped up by the end of 2022. Around 30 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created.

The town is helping drive French Guiana’s energy transition with its various renewable energy projects.
