Plan to install solar canopies in the car park of Wissembourg Hospital
Energy optimisation at Wissembourg Hospital
Wissembourg Hospital has engaged in an ambitious plan to reduce its energy consumption and increase its energy self-sufficiency. This initiative was motivated by the need to comply with France’s ENR Act , which requires healthcare establishments with car parks of over 1,500 m² to install solar canopies over at least half of the area by 2026.
A solar installation covering two-thirds of the 3,600 m² car park
Idex designed, financed and installed solar canopies over an area of 2,524 m² in the hospital car park, the equivalent of 175 parking spaces. The 524 kWp installation is expected to generate €100,000 worth of electricity every year, with potential annual savings of €25,000 for the hospital. The electricity produced by this plant will be consumed solely by Wissembourg Hospital, thereby reducing its dependence on external energy sources.
Solar canopies and energy production
The solar power plant is equipped with 1,242 panels of 435 Wp each. The clean, renewable energy produced is fed directly into the hospital's power grid. This output is equivalent to the annual needs of around 100 households[AP1] . Through this installation, the hospital is able to make significant progress towards several key objectives:
-
Competitively priced, stable energy: the hospital gains a competitively priced, stable energy source for a period of 19 years, allowing it to secure energy costs and take advantage of a reliable source of green energy.
-
Land development: by producing local, green low-carbon energy, the hospital is developing its land, turning parking spaces into sustainable energy production sources.
-
User comfort: the solar canopies improve comfort for car park users by protecting vehicles from the sun and also from bad weather.
A project managed by Idex from A to Z
Idex managed every stage of the project, from initial design to technical studies via administrative procedures. At the same time, Idex is bearing the operational risk, guaranteeing a sustainable and competitive electricity supply for Wissembourg Hospital over a 19-year period.
