Optimise your energy performance with surface geothermal energy by Idex

Idex offers an integrated surface geothermal solution to reduce your building's CO2 emissions and energy consumption. By harnessing renewable energy from the ground or groundwater, coupled with high-performance heat pumps, Idex optimises the energy efficiency of your commercial or multi-family residential building.

Thanks to its technical expertise, financial engineering and guaranteed performance commitments, Idex can implement a tailor-made solution to reduce your CO2 emissions by up to 90% and make significant savings. Choose local, sustainable and controlled energy with Idex.

Your challenges: moving away from fossil fuels and reducing your energy consumption

The current energy context shows how important it is to reduce your energy consumption in order to better control it, particularly when it comes to heating. The volatility of fossil fuel prices and record highs for natural gas reinforce this message. Geothermal energy, which has been used for thousands of years, is evolving, but its principle remains the same: drill into the ground to harness an inexhaustible source of energy. With coefficients of performance (COP) that are higher than other systems, geothermal solutions guarantee optimum energy efficiency as part of the energy transition.

logo Foncia

For the Résidence Les Vertes Campagnes in Gex (Ain), Idex deployed surface geothermal energy coupled with heat pumps on behalf of Foncia. The aims are to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions, improve EPD, make them more attractive to rent and comply with the BACS decree. Idex stood out for its optimal technical and economic approach, a turnkey project with guaranteed savings, optimisation of subsidies and financing. Expected results: 77% reduction in energy consumption and 91% reduction in CO2 emissions, improved EPD.

logo fondation de Rothschild

Idex has deployed a geothermal system with heat pumps in 8 care establishments run by the Rothschild Foundation. This €2m project will result in energy savings of 34% and 450 tonnes of CO2 per year. Challenges: safety, patient comfort, sustainability of facilities, 24/7 continuity, compliance with the Tertiary Decree. Idex impressed with its expertise in energy management, its decarbonisation solutions, including geothermal energy, and its performance commitments. The work was financed by savings via an Energy Efficiency Certificate.

logo seaquarium

At the Seaquarium in Le Grau-du-Roi (Gard), Idex has installed a thalassothermal system with heat pumps, resulting in energy savings of -28% and -56 t CO2/year. Challenges: reduce environmental impact, optimise consumption via BMS, modernise air handling, ensure thermal comfort and smooth operation. Idex was chosen for its expertise in energy savings and its relevant works plan. The 5,000 m² building is now temperature-controlled, with energy performance guaranteed by a Global Performance Contract.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about surface geothermal energy

What are the advantages of geothermal energy over other forms of heating?

Geothermal energy can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared with natural gas. With high coefficients of performance, it guarantees optimum energy efficiency and savings on bills. Geothermal energy is local, renewable and not subject to variations in the price of fossil fuels.

What types of building are best suited to surface geothermal energy?

Surface geothermal energy, coupled with water-to-water or brine-to-water heat pumps, is particularly suitable for tertiary buildings (offices, health establishments, sports or cultural facilities, etc.) and collective housing. For larger requirements, deep geothermal energy may be considered.

How does Idex optimise the performance of a geothermal installation?

Idex is involved at every stage to guarantee performance: bespoke design, construction using high-quality equipment, optimised operation thanks to geostorage/ destorage, preventive maintenance. Performance commitments are made via Energy Performance Contracts. Idex’s financial engineering can also be used to optimise grants to reduce the remaining costs.

What geothermal technologies does Idex master?

Idex masters all surface geothermal technologies (probe fields, water tables) and deep geothermal technologies (geothermal doublets). We install water-to-water and brine-to-water geothermal heat pumps of all capacities, and develop heating networks and geothermal loops. Our dedicated design office will scale the optimum solution for each project.
