Soissons moves towards energy self-sufficiency with its heating network
On 1 October 2022, Idex became the new public service operator of the Soissons heating network, as part of a 20-year contract. Set up in 1978 and currently supplying the equivalent of 2,550 homes, the network is set to undergo a significant transformation towards renewable energies.
The project developed by Idex will increase the proportion of renewables in the network energy mix from 46% to 85%. This will be achieved primarily with a new biomass boiler plant and a power supply that is guaranteed to be 100% renewable for the running of the infrastructure. The network will also be modernised and extended from 9.9 km to 26 km. Sixty additional substations will be created as part of this local, social project, which concerns not only individual homes but also social and collective housing.
This network is virtuous in its use of energy. It has received financial support from the ADEME’s heat fund, from the white certificate scheme, from Idex, which is committing 28% of the total investment, and also from a participatory financing plan paying a higher rate for residents of Soissons.
