Idex announces strong and ambitious annual results
A leading player in local and low-carbon energy, Idex announced exceptional results for 2024 at its annual press conference on 6 November. Results showed record levels of investment and steady growth in the local, low-carbon heat and power sectors. Building on its commitment to the energy transition, the Group is continuing to play a central role in the development of local, sustainable infrastructures.
Financial performance and investments commensurate with the challenges of climate change
In 2024, Idex reported turnover of €2.16 billion and EBITDA of €180 million, a 20% increase on 2023. These results are underpinned by a reinforced investment strategy, with €287 million allocated to infrastructure projects.
By doubling the size of the portfolio under the mandate of its shareholder Antin Infrastructure Partners, Idex is extending its impact at local level in response to the growing need for low-carbon solutions.
“These results underline the strength of our integrated business model and its dynamic performance, as well as our ability to invest in sustainable infrastructures that meet the challenges of climate change. By implementing local energy solutions, we are making the energy transition a reality on the ground, delivering ecological gains and economic benefits. Building on our success in 2024, we aim to step up the pace further in 2025.”
Projects serving municipalities, industry and buildings.
The investments made by Idex are an essential part of its development and its role as a pioneer in local energy. This financing is primarily for projects with a high environmental impact, such as heating and cooling networks supplying residential and commercial buildings with low-carbon energy, or industrial energy production units.
By integrating a range of renewable energy sources and optimising their management, Idex is able to maximise the efficiency of its infrastructures and to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
One of the main projects in 2024, in Epernay, concerned a heating network fuelled primarily by biomass, which will enable the town to cut its CO₂ emissions by 9,700 tonnes a year. Other initiatives, such as the networks in Nice, Haguenau and Agen, are part of the same drive to implement local, low-carbon solutions, guaranteeing access to heat at a stable and competitive price. Although fossil fuel prices have now fallen after surging in 2022, the industrial decarbonisation business remains buoyant with the signing of several low-carbon heat supply contracts, confirming market interest in an operator able to finance turnkey decarbonisation solutions. In the agri-food sector, Idex is working with companies such as Heineken and Bel to optimise production processes and support their decarbonisation goals.
Idex also confirmed the market success of its agnostic, turnkey decarbonisation solutions for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. For example, Idex is supporting its customer Gecina in installing an innovative closed-loop geothermal solution in a residential complex of 500 homes, reducing CO2 emissions by 86%. Idex is also continuing to move towards electrification, with the development of solar photovoltaic installations for healthcare and industry.
