Idex makes a commitment to deploying green energy in Cannes
Idex has won a public service contract to finance, design, build and operate a biomass heating network for the La Frayère district in Cannes-La Bocca. Commissioning is scheduled for 2026.
A shift from fossil fuels to renewable energies
The Cannes Lérins Urban Community chose Idex to help it achieve net zero by 2050. Overall, some 8,700 metres of underground pipes will be laid to supply hot water and heating to 49 buildings in a district undergoing major restructuring (€50 million invested in urban redevelopment and flood control).
The Urban Community is moving away from fossil fuels and aiming to achieve an average of 80% of renewable energies during the life of the contract. The heating network will avoid over 157,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, a figure equivalent to taking 3,600 combustion vehicles off the road every year.
A solution giving local residents access to a "green" heating network.
Through this public service contract, Idex is committed to providing the community with heat at a competitive and stable price. Directly accessible to residential developments and housing associations, the new heating network is a direct response to the challenges of energy self-sufficiency, maintaining purchasing power, with clean, renewable energy at competitive rates.
Local waste as a source of renewable energy
Contributing to the green circular economy, 25% of the biomass required will be supplied by local waste from the Cannes Lérins Urban Community. Idex will also include wood and wood chips supplied by the region in its energy mix, thereby contributing to the green waste industry in the Cannes region.
After using seawater for our first heating network, we are now turning to biomass for our second network in Cannes-La Bocca. Responding to the climate crisis, our Chair, David Lisnard, has opted for innovation and investment.
